ABSTRACT
University museums include a variety of institutions whose origins, collections and purposes vary greatly. The only common factors are: that their administration and finance are provided, although not always exclusively, by a parent university; that their collections and buildings are generally owned by a university; that their staff are employed by a university; and that, in one way or another, they make a contribution to the purpose of that university.
