ABSTRACT
Alone amongst the many cultural organizations in the modern world museums challenge a clear definition. The reasons lie in the diversity of museums from monolithic, multi-subject institutions to small museums associated with specific sites or subjects. There is some agreement that museums are essentially educational in nature and purpose, and that the services they provide are usually based on the collections and associated documentation.
