ABSTRACT

The Curator or Manager of multi-disciplinary collections is unlikely to have a comprehensive knowledge of more than one or two of the collections under his care. Despite this, the museum’s management committee should reasonably expect the Curator to determine accurately priorities for the maintenance of all collections whilst making the most efficient use of the manpower, facilities and financial resources at his disposal. The chapters within the section cover a broad range of collection-management problems which it is hoped will assist the Curator in assessing a particular museum’s priorities.
