ABSTRACT

Hazards arise from a multitude of sources such as natural events, technological failures, social violence, biological agents, and chronic or globally significant conditions. Hazards research is an interdisciplinary endeavor and spans the divide between the social, natural, engineering, and health sciences. While approaching the field from different perspectives, the hazards research community has one thing in common: a focus on the human environmental dimensions of extreme events caused by natural sources, technological failures, or human agency.
