ABSTRACT

In January of 1992 I was invited to serve as a “chronicler” for women living with HIV/AIDS. My coresearcher, Chris Smithies, and I have since interviewed twenty-five women, largely in meetings with Women and AIDS support groups in four major cities in Ohio, but also, as is not atypical of even quasi-ethnographic work, at holiday and birthday parties, on camping trips and retreats, in hospital rooms, and at funerals, baby showers, and picnics.
