ABSTRACT
Stories are instruments of communication by their very form (Shah 1964). They cannot be unravelled by ordinary methods alone. It is no use trying to count words or correlate metaphors in a story with elevations in blood pressure and hope to extract any meaning, but it is possible to understand them as they are structured as a set of narratives. These narratives can be understood as being structured according to the rules of construction, as are musical compositions.
