ABSTRACT

The clinical examples within this section are intended to cover the lifespan, ranging from work with a pre-school child (Chapter 4) to older people with dementia (Chapter 9). Two central areas within the profession, namely music therapy with adults with learning disability and dementia, are reviewed in Chapters 6 and 9, respectively. Children with communication problems and autism are similarly well-established areas of practice: two chapters are included here, one involving work with a child and her mother (Chapter 4) and the other a case study of a school-aged autistic child (Chapter 5). Two further clinical areas that are recently gaining importance are also included: neurology (Chapter 6) and forensic psychiatry (Chapter 8).
