ABSTRACT

Much of what we know about the ancient Roman world comes to us by way of inscriptions carved into stone tablets and other monuments. When Roman officials wanted to make a public announcement, it was often read aloud to an assembly, and then posted in the form of an inscription. The vast variety of subjects touched upon in inscriptions gives us great insight into the political, social and religious activities of the Romans. The subject matter of this inscription is an honorific prayer dedicated to the Roman emperor Caesar Augustus and his divine spirit.
