ABSTRACT
The Gospel of John places this long prayer on the lips of Jesus at the conclusion of his final meal with the disciples, immediately before they go out across the Kidron Valley to the garden where he will be arrested. It has long been called the ‘High Priestly Prayer’, suggesting that, in it, John's Jesus is interpreting his forthcoming sacrifice of himself on the cross. 1
