ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates more closely ways of finding the metaphors and symbols and the art of deciphering them so as to put them to work dramatherapeutically. During a dramatherapy session small rituals take place which represent both the individual and the group. Actions take place which have specific symbolic meaning, after which a new reality is established. During a dramatherapy session certain themes may be brought up by the members. Depending on these the dramatherapist needs to find ways of putting to work the symbols which represent them. There is general agreement that myths and fairy tales speak to us in the language of symbols representing unconscious content. The triangle is a very ancient symbol which represented life in primitive art. The use of the dominant symbol gives the dramatherapist the opportunity to work with her client on a metaphorical level.
