ABSTRACT

In Chapter 12 we attempted to draw the threads together from the previous chapters by discussing a series of guidelines which help translate our ideas about user-friendliness into a framework for practice. In this chapter we carry this process a step further by looking at several facets of therapy which we have attempted to change using our user-friendly framework. What we shall be describing is not a new model of therapy: it is more a shift in emphasis – a new stance which seeks to place the user-therapist alliance at the centre of therapeutic work.
