ABSTRACT

The concept of imaginatio is perhaps the most important key to the understanding of the opus. The alchemical forge and laboratory is both the imaginal and concrete predecessor of modern consulting room, otherwise known as the temenos the containing space for individuation of the therapeutic opus. In the alchemical frame imagination is the primary datum informing the Coniunctio mind/matter. In alchemy, the Fermentatio images the unsettling process of a soul's incarnation to animate an apparently lifeless body. The lifeless body is not literally a dead body. The theatre laboratory provides an imaginal world located behind the scenes of the clinical work. Imaginal bodies in the theatre and body's imagination in the temenos (therapeutic space) are haunting allusions to each other and to ever-changing subject who attends and moves both, but cannot be possessed by either.
