ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an analytic engagement illustrating the alchemical processes of meditatio, imaginatio and amplificatio. Images of the emergent self in dreams and fantasies weaved through transference counter transference dynamics, both concrete and abstract. The fantasy of the queen (analyst) and servant (analysand) appeared first in a session, as an intra psychic event in the analysand and an intersubjective event between us. The queen-servant image functioned as a hologram showing different aspects and transformations of the emerging self in the relationship between analyst and analysand. The alchemical opus symbolises the process of analysis: the uncovering of the self through the work of meditatio and imaginatio. The chapter explores the metaphors and symbols of transformation as they arose in this analysis. It describes the mediation of archetypal energies within the transference-counter transference. The dream and fantasy images showed the psyche at its work of individuation.
