ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a very brief and tentative review of the trends emerging in and around the technology-enhanced teaching and learning of maths. It expolres the several overlapping phases: technocentric maths learning, enriching maths learning, extending maths learning, encouraging maths learning, user-generated maths learning, and learning maths in mobile and connected societies. The reason behind this exploration of the phases and implicit definitions of mobile learning is to provide contrasting lenses with which to analyse the contributions. Mobi Massive open online courses (MOOC) used free and open-source software, attracting 600 learners in each of its iterations, and focused on mobile learning. Implementing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy act as a vehicle for learning, and in classroom it offered helpful presentation to information seeking teachers. The increasing use of mobile apps and mobile devices amongst professional mathematicians but more likely amongst professional scientists and professional engineers will inevitably filter upstream into the maths curriculum.
