ABSTRACT

In seeking to build a culture of teacher leadership, the principal should continually strive to facilitate adult learning, collaboration, and reflection. Principals should evaluate how best to maximize teacher participation to better develop, monitor, and enact the School Improvement Team. In an age where the job description for the principalship continues to grow, so does the need for authentic teacher leadership. Understanding each respective key area of teacher leadership is important. Teacher leadership involvement with the school improvement process is important. Teacher leadership is greatly enhanced by effective principal leadership. Research indicates that these teachers are given less opportunity than they would prefer despite the fact that they feel capable and ready to assist in school leadership functions. The concept of effectively maximizing teacher leadership remains a challenge for many principals. The principal is positioned, to develop and facilitate reservoirs of insights, energies, and ideals by striving to maximize the leadership capacity within the school organization.
