ABSTRACT

Teacher leaders, working with other teachers, administrators, parents, and the community, play a major role in transforming the traditional curriculum and infusing it with the arts. In essence, teacher leaders can affect major curriculum changes, including promoting arts integration into the curriculum in significant and meaningful ways through drama, storytelling, visual arts, music, and dance. As teachers share ideas and lend support, they pave the way for motivation, arts-infused curriculum improvement, and teacher leadership among the entire faculty. Since teacher leaders possess in-depth knowledge of child development, they can influence the implementation of an effective standards-based and arts-based curriculum. Developing personal creativity is critical so that teacher leaders can model techniques and utilize effective strategies in their classrooms. Teacher leaders realize and impress upon others that the arts are a gateway to a higher degree of understanding and expression and that the arts are the seeds of promise and innovation for a brighter future.
