ABSTRACT
The story about how the theory of evolution was and is accepted by American Christians is an interesting story with a varied cast of characters. There are those who sincerely believe that evolution challenges the idea of the existence of God, whereas there are others who maintain that evolution is the very way that God creates the universe we see around us today. As you might imagine, the stakes are incredibly high. For many of the characters in this story, the very truth and authority of the Bible is up for grabs depending on how one understands the theory of evolution.
