ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case study to establish a basic understanding of the phenomenon of Chinese aviator families, and to explores the effect of migration on the social connections of the children and guardians who relocate. It describes who aviator families are and their social connections, and examines what is important to the maintenance and development of their social connections. The chapter then explores the associations between migrants social connections and other factors through statistical analysis, and then considers variables used to measure social connections. The profile of aviator families presented in the study provides a good background for further research into the phenomenon around China, and the results concerning their social connections provide a starting point from which to further investigate their social situations. Chinese newspaper articles report aviator families, but extensive literature research has uncovered no English academic articles, and only a few Chinese articles.
