ABSTRACT
Despite its relatively young age, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely researched approaches for treating psychological problems in youth. This chapter provides an overview of CBT from both a procedural and empirical point of view and promotes the increased use of CBT with the problems for which there is demonstrated efficacy. We begin by briefly discussing the cognitive behavioural theoretical framework on which interventions are based, and illustrate the general guiding principles. We then consider CBT’s application with several specific clinical problems in youth.
