ABSTRACT
Several long-term religio-cultural trends in America, especially those associated with the radical individualism of the culture, may have a significant impact on the environment in which human service professionals work. These trends may contribute to increased anomie and alienation, factors which tend to work counter to prevention in human services. Nonetheless, probably at no time in history have local clergy been as well trained or as critically positioned to work in league with helping professionals.
