ABSTRACT

Formal groupings or organizations of psychologists have played a major role in the development of industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology in the United States. Such organizations have enhanced progress in applications of psychological research to improve the working life of humans and the efficiency of business and industrial concerns. However, titles identifying such groups with the field of I-O psychology did not begin to appear until the second decade of the 20th century. As noted in Chapters 1 and 2, the earliest applications were associated with individual contributors rather than groups.
