ABSTRACT

Detrimental health effects from environmental radiation exposures in Kazakhstan derive from nuclear weapons testing and uranium mining. With respect to uranium mining, some efforts have been made to assess its impact on the environment (Kazymbet and Seisebaev, 2002; Stegnar et al., 2013) but with little attention paid to possible health consequences, either to miners or to the general population living close to the mines. However, possible health consequences of nuclear weapons testing have drawn greater attention from researchers.
