ABSTRACT

During the past decade a group at UCLA has been engaged in the construction and use of measures designed to assess chronic stress in mothers of young children. This chapter summarizes findings from a series of early studies that influenced our decision to develop these measures. The chapter also summarizes and reviews more recent research that has been carried out in connection with the development and use of the measures, as well as describes the measures themselves. Although the project is ongoing and we continue to be engaged in the refinement of the measures, the research presented reflects their promise.
