ABSTRACT

Recent years have seen a broader development of psychological and psychiatric inventories and scales measuring behavior, psychopathology, or personality characteristics. The methodology of their construction has followed several approaches: rational, empirical, factor analytic or combined. But, regardless of the methodological approach, recent studies have shown that there are no significant differences in the relative success of the methodology applied (Butcher & Owen, 1978). What is more important for the validity of a personality assessment instrument is the external validation that it receives during its development. If the scale does not predict what it is supposed to, it is useless regardless of how interesting the content might be (Butcher & Owen, 1978).
