ABSTRACT

The normative data on the recall of Bender-Gestalt designs by adults are consolidated and organized for the first time. The relationships of intelligence, personality variables, and age to Bender recall are discussed. The relationship of Bender recall to the Wechsler Memory Scale and other measures of functioning are also described. The experimental data on the utility of Bender recall as a screening measure for brain damage are reviewed. The extensive variation in how Bender recall has been operationalized is described, and desirable characteristics for a standardized operational definition of Bender recall are outlined. The recall of Bender-Gestalt designs is analyzed in terms of a model of memory.
