ABSTRACT

The finding of unequal correlations among the latent factors was primarily influenced by the large sample size, as the correlation between the two factors was highly similar for men and women. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis of the 16-item Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) revealed a similar two-factor pattern for men and women, along with demonstrated equality of the factor loadings and item errors. Through confirmatory factor analysis, using maximum likelihood estimation, the appropriateness of a two-factor structure for both sexes is evaluated, and whether the item loadings, item errors, and factor correlations are the same for both sexes is determined. The data were collected in two different semesters in the context of a study of test anxiety. The TAI was administered as part of the questionnaire developed for that study, using the standard directions as reported in the TAI Manual.
