ABSTRACT
In this chapter we first give general information about Amsterdam’s history, the population and housing, economy, culture and administration. Secondly, we describe some of the major social and health problems. The third theme is the history, transformation and the characteristics of Amsterdam’s mental health services. We finish with a discussion of current issues and conclusions.
