ABSTRACT

Because much of the meaning and value of research in this area is linked with the stability variability of IADL, the question that arises first concerns the stability of these self-reports. Disability as a result of arthritic disease may vary from hour to hour. Clinical experience suggests that elderly are more likely to feel and report disability in cold weather. Very little work has been done on the variability of measures of functional deficit (Hazzard, Andres, Bier-man, & Blass, 1989). In subsequent research much could be added by remeasuring disability.
