ABSTRACT

Turfgrass establishment and revegetation programs need to be planned within a broader framework to ensure that the various operations progress in a systematic manner. This framework should include information on the nature of the site, objectives of the project, and the allocation of materials, equipment and labour. Renovation, as a process, can either be partial or complete in nature. Complete renovation involves resoling or planting the entire site, whereas partial renovation requires only spot replacement without disturbing the turfgrass surface. The sequence of operations required in the renovation process includes site preparation, turfgrass selection, planting procedures, and post planting care. Most renovations involve overseeding with seed, rather than vegetative material, using a broadcast or disc seeder. The rate at which a grass surface is overseeded is of great importance. Seed is sown with a direct drop spreader, and vegetative material into the thin turf using a sprig planter. Partial renovation also involves the seeding and sprigging.
