ABSTRACT

This study presents a preliminary outline of a long-range development programme for West African electric generation and transmission systems, making the optimum use of the region's rich water resources. The preparation of long range perspective development plans makes possible the assessment of overall electric energy investment requirements over the next fifteen years and the evaluation for consistency and coordination of individual projects within the context of overall requirements. This study attempts only a first approximation of a perspective plan based upon available load growth and engineering information and will require continuous review and updating as additional information becomes available from the individual West African countries' hydro-electric development programmes.
