ABSTRACT
A tsunami is an oceanic gravity wave generated by various submarine geological processes such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. Most tsunamis are generated by large earthquakes around the Pacific Ocean (Figure 42.1). Tsunamis are usually small and barely noticed in deep oceans. Once they approach coasts or harbors, they becomes large and cause damage.
