ABSTRACT

We define psychomotor therapy as the treatment of people who are confronted with psychosocial problems, using movement activities and/ or special attention for bodily experiences (Vermeer and Sonius, 1976; Fahrenfort, 1986; van Coppenolle, 1989). Over the past twenty years, psychomotor therapy has developed rapidly in The Netherlands. As part of the psychosocial care offered in psychiatric hospitals, it is now a generally accepted and applied form of treatment.
