ABSTRACT

BAIF, a non-profit development research foundation, was founded in 1967, at Urulikanchan, near Pune. It seeks to raise incomes and employment among the rural poor through the application of science and technology. From modest beginnings with a dairy cattle production programme, BAIF later diversified to embrace animal health, nutrition, afforestation, wasteland development and tribal rehabilitation, and currently employs a staff of almost 3,000. BAIF sees its development research as ‘based on technological research designed in response to field realities’.
