ABSTRACT

A central question in this concluding chapter is – given the diversity of the case-study material reviewed in Chapters 3 to 7 – to what extent generalizations might be made, whether concerning the nature of NGOs and GOs, the types of interactions that might usefully be promoted, or the preconditions for successful collaboration. To address this question, we first review the types of diversity evident in the case studies. We then argue that generalization is possible in certain areas, and conclude by drawing out the implications for policy formulation among GOs, funding agencies and NGOs themselves.
