ABSTRACT
Education today is characterised by ongoing debates
about how best to teach children and discussions about
what sort of practice is most likely to contribute to
their development and learning. These are such com-
plex phenomena that no one theory is sufficient to
explain them. Historically many prominent educators
have espoused their own theories and practices.
