ABSTRACT

One of the less publicised aspects of environmental modernisation has been the slow but steady ‘greening’ of the professions. Engineering was one of the earliest to recognise that natural processes actually do engineering work, so it is wiser to design alongside such processes than against them. In the course of time, engineers have been followed by accountants, investment analysts, chartered surveyors, land agents and most recently the medical profession, with its grudging acceptance of complementary medicine.
