ABSTRACT

It is very easy for humans to harm the Earth: they may profess otherwise, but they still do so. Word and deed rarely match. Some of the most atrocious acts are made in the name of peace and divine love. So it should not be surprising to learn that from the time of entry, humans have used simple but voracious tools, namely fire and the axe, to establish settlement, clear away enemies, frighten game or produce charcoal. The chainsaw and the bulldozer are admittedly quite a step up on the technological ladder, but the net result is the same, albeit on a different scale.
