ABSTRACT
The built environment has evolved, and continues to evolve, over time. The buildings which have survived could be said to be those which were the result of a combination of successful design and the correct selection of materials. This combination was used in such a way that the performance requirements, coupled with the technological knowledge at the time, more than proved the adequacy of the choice.
