ABSTRACT
Fifteen years ago teachers were fighting a battle to have classroom furniture unbolted from the floor, so that the grouping of students could be flexible and permit a range of new classroom activities. Today we see that informed teaching encourages us to regard the community outside the classroom as an equally liberating potential.
