ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the thinking that precedes the development of a scheme of work. It shows that the 'creative' thinking that goes into planning a project like this can be tackled in simple stages; that it involves setting oneself a series of realistic tasks which are not unreasonably time-consuming nor demanding. The chapter offers a detailed example of how one might develop a topic-based drama project, involving inter-curricular work which culminates in a presentation to a parallel class. Recycles batteries: importing used household batteries, and separating these into raw material components for re-use. If the drama is to involve a dilemma, the company proposals must at least have the potential to split the island community. The islanders must decide whether to welcome the company's proposals or dissuade it from siting the factory on the island. The discussion which informs this decision-making will need to be organised so that the less verbally articulate children can be given a voice.
