ABSTRACT

The nature of the interaction between units of the prosodic hierarchy and other modules of the grammar has been one of the major areas of linguistic research in recent years. The part played by prosodie domains, in conjunction with syntactic domains, in delimiting the context in which postlexical (i.e. phrasal) phonological rules apply has received a considerable amount of attention (cf. Selkirk 1984a, Kaisse 1985, Nespor and Vogel 1986d, Hyman et al. 1987 among others).
