ABSTRACT

Management, in the sense that it is used throughout this book, is the process of getting work done through other people by the use of human resources, materials and time to achieve objectives. Many people across a wide spectrum of human endeavour are concerned to achieve objectives using materials and time. The key distinction of management lies not merely in the attainment of specific objectives, but in attaining them through the efforts of other people. Project managers, who form the focus of this book, are concerned to achieve specific objectives, in this case project outputs, through the efforts of the other people making up the project team.
