ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with one of the primary tasks of project management, that of preparing for project implementation. The definition of projects in this book includes reference to the fact that they are investments which have definite start and end dates. The process between the start and end dates is that of project implementation or establishment. This process involves a series of activities which need to be planned, operated and controlled and which will inevitably involve the utilization of resources. The management of these activities so that the project can be completed on time and at cost consistent with the plan is a fundamental requirement of project managers.
