ABSTRACT

A group of artist-walkers has created a large urban trail of 300 miles around the city of Marseille, between shrub landscapes. Ramble or Dream It is in these terms that major French daily labelled this contribution to the project GR2013, which was a part of the European Capital of Culture programme in 2013. The article appeared on the sports pages, whereas other newspapers inserted their report of GR2013 in the travel or in culture section. Here, by examining a part of this trail, author will explore the landscape perceptions produced by the experience from the perspective of one of its organizers and creators. Following this route offers insights into the lived space and on possible aesthetic experiences of its social dimensions. The route line was finally marked with a red and yellow stripe way marking system by members of local hiking clubs. In addition, artists published a guidebook for the 20-day route together with the French Hiking Federation (FFRP 2013).
