ABSTRACT
The main objective of this chapter is to critically assess the main factors that influence the Bhutanese view of the rise of China from various perspectives and for different stakeholders especially in the economic and political arenas. The key implications of China's growing geopolitical importance on Bhutan are multiple, including renewed emphasis on resolving the border dispute, pressure to develop the private sector and careful management of the relationship with India.
