ABSTRACT

During the past decade, the expanding activities of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Chinese commercial actors in Latin America and the Caribbean have significantly impacted the dynamics of the region. In the process, it has spawned an array of scholarship, including general accounts of what was happening (Dunbaugh and Sullivan 2005; Jubany and Poon 2006; Ellis 2009), studies of the economic relationship (Blázquez-Lidoy et al 2006; Devlin et al 2006; Jenkins and Peters 2009; Gallagher and Porzecanski 2010; Fornés and Butt Philip 2012), and multiple compiled volumes focusing principally on country-specific studies (Aranson et al 2008; Roett and Paz 2008; Jilberto and Hogenboom 2010; Hearn and León-Manríquez 2011; Straus and Armony 2012; Dussell et al 2013).
