ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will outline conceptual methods for tackling one of Shakespeare’s comedies, Twelfth Night, as envisioned by critically-acclaimed 1 costume designer Catherine Zuber for Nicholas Hytner’s 1998 production at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. Though Ms. Zuber has designed more recent Shakespeare productions—including the 2012 Richard III directed by Sam Mendes—this old production stands the test of time and could, with a few minor edits, still be presented as innovative today.
