ABSTRACT

This chapter examines work by a group of older people and an academic researcher. Our interest was to raise public awareness about end-of-life issues and to encourage older people to think about and make plans for their future. The project has three key aims, namely to show:

how practitioners (older people) can participate in the designing and carrying out of research;

how older people’s awareness of end-of-life issues can be improved by giving them information and skills to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others around them;

how a small, locally based project is a response to and shapes movements in the wider health care system.
