ABSTRACT
In this chapter we provide an overview of the impact of vascular risk factors on the structure and function of the aging brain as well as discuss goals for future treatment and research. We present epidemiological, neuropsychological, neurological, and neuroscientific data in order to describe the prevalence of cerebrovascular disease and to elucidate the mechanisms by which cerebrovascular disease affects brain structure and cognition across a broad spectrum of older adults.
