ABSTRACT

This chapter is the story of the development of Since Time Immemorial (STI): A Tribal Sovereignty Curriculum, 1 (which can be found online at https://tribalsov.ospi.k12.wa.us/" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">https://tribalsov.ospi.k12.wa.us/) and of my own development, which for me are tightly interwoven and carry many lessons. The curriculum name is drawn from our history:

Since time immemorial, tribal sovereignty has been the life pursuit of Indigenous peoples throughout this great land. Since time immemorial, our life and times have been recorded through our oral histories, songs, and traditions, just as the trees have recorded their environmental growth and challenges in their rings. And since time immemorial, our spirit of sovereignty has enveloped our being, has permeated what we teach our children and—most importantly—how we have taught our children.
